HOW TO BE SAVED
You might be wondering how is that you can be saved. Or you might think that you have no need
for salvation. You might even think that there is no way God would save you? If one of those is
your thoughts, or if you have other thoughts pertaining to salvation, please take the time to review
the following content.
God is holy and demands holiness
God is holy. He is perfectly good in all of His ways. Not only is He good in all of His ways, His
eyes are too pure to approve of evil (Psalms 5:4; Habakkuk 1:13). The implication of this is that
nothing or no one who is un-holy can live with God. Therefore, in order for God to approve of
you, you must be perfectly good all the time (Leviticus 11:44-45; 1 Peter 1:15-16).
We are not holy
Every person is sinful and therefore is guilty of sin (Romans 3:23). In fact, Galatians 3:10 shows
us how foolish it is for us to think that we can be justified by our "good" works. Such an attempt
demands that we perfectly obey God's law. That means our thoughts and our actions have to
always be perfectly in sync with God's word. In fact, the very attempt for someone to be justified
by his or her "good" works means that he or she is currently under a curse (Galatians 3:10).
There is no amount of "good" works that we can do in order to gain acceptance in the eyes of
God (Isaiah 64:6; Galatians 2:16). Our sinful actions and thoughts are results of the sinful nature
that was passed from Adam to every descendant that has followed him (Genesis 2:17; Psalm
51:5; Romans 3:23).
Judgment will take place
One thing that we can be sure of is that judgment is going to take place (Romans 2:16). Also,
there is nothing that you can do to make yourself good, and there is no way for you to please
God. Not only do you sin but you cannot stop yourself from sinning (Romans 8:6-8). When God
pours out His wrath in the Day of Judgment, you will experience His wrath without any mixture of
grace (Romans 6:23; Romans 2:6-9; Revelation 21:8).
Jesus always has been and always will be God
God sent His only begotten Son, Jesus, in the form of man (Philippians 2:5-7). Mankind could
never make the required payment to satisfy their sin debt. Therefore, Jesus Christ was provided
as a substitute by the Father (John 3:16). However, His status as the Son is so different from our
normal thinking in terms of the father and son relationship. In fact, in John 10:31, Jesus made the
claim that He and His Father (God) are one. The Jews clearly understood that Jesus was
claiming to be God, which is why they said they took up stones to stone Him (John 10:33). Jesus
is God's message to humanity (John 1:1); He is greater than anyone who ever was or will be
(Revelation 17:14); He is perfect (1 Peter 2:21-22; Hebrews 4:15). Because of those facts, Jesus
was able to be a substitute for sinners, and by being so He received the punishment that sinners
deserve (Romans 5:8). We know that Jesus' sacrifice was accepted by God because of His
resurrection (Acts 5:30-31; Romans 4:25; 1Corinthians 15:3-4). A result of Jesus' substitution on
behalf of sinners is that He justifies them and makes them righteous (Romans 3:24; 2 Corinthians
5:21).
However, the righteousness that God grants comes only by faith in Christ (Romans 5:1-2;
Galatians 2:16). To have faith alone in Christ means that He alone is the object of your faith. It
means to entrust yourself to Him alone for salvation. To turn to Christ in faith demands that there
also be a turning away from your sin. That is called repentance. For the person who trusts Jesus
Christ alone for salvation, the works that he does are the evidence of salvation, not the basis of
salvation. That's what the Apostle John meant when he wrote, "By this we know that we have
come to know Him, if we keep His commandments (1 John 2:3)." Therefore, faith and repentance
go hand and hand.
Will you trust in Jesus Christ alone and recognize Him for the Lord that He is? Or will you enter
the Divine court on that Day of Judgment and make the argument that you should be acquitted
based on your own good works? Since Jesus will be the One doing the judging, what an insult it
would be to Jesus for you to argue that your righteousness is good enough for you to be declared
not guilty! After all, the Bible states, "And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other
name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12).
Are you saying that the Bible is lying and that your righteousness is equal with His?
We pray that you will trust in Christ alone for salvation today. If you do, please feel free to contact
us via email so that we can send you some literature that will help you to grow in the new life that
Jesus gives to all those who trust in Him (Romans 6:1-4).
